Live energy
The wholesale price of electricity, quarter-hour by quarter-hour. It is the index behind the two thirds of the catalogue that are indexed offers.
Every number on this page is one single figure: the price electricity is bought at wholesale on the power exchange, the PUN. It is not what you pay on your bill — it is the raw material, on top of which the seller adds their spread and the state adds regulated charges.
The day 92 fifteen-minute intervals · PUN in €/kWh
The low almost always falls around midday, when solar produces more than the grid needs. The high comes in the evening, when the sun has set and demand has not.
Prices for the whole day are already set: the day-ahead auction closes at 12:00 and publishes results by 12:58 on the previous day. What you see to the right of “now” is not a forecast, it is a price already cleared.
The seven zones today's average PUN by zone, €/kWh
Italy does not have a single price: the exchange sets one per zone, and where the grid cannot carry the energy the price breaks away. Sicily is the zone that breaks away most often.
The recent period daily PUN
The band is each day’s swing between low and high, the line is the average. Over a week the price looks still; over a year it doubles, and February’s low looks nothing like August.
How to read it
This is not the official PUN
ENTSO-E publishes the seven zonal prices, not the PUN. Here the zonal average is weighted by load rather than by exchange purchases: on 25 August the gap against the published value was 0.4%. Fine for reading the market; billing needs GME.
The daily price is not what you pay
Indexed offers are billed on the monthly average PUN, not on today’s. A spike like the 8pm one enters that average with a weight of one ninety-sixth: it moves your bill by fractions of a cent.
So what is it for
To see whether the month is running above or below the average the offers are priced against. That is the fixed-versus-indexed decision, not a reason to switch supplier today.
And on your own bill?
The wholesale price is half the story. The other half is the seller’s spread and the regulated charges.
